Brief History

The Federation of Associations of Building Contractors Cyprus (O.S.E.O.K.) was incorporated on February 25, 1995 and entered in the register of the Guild Registrar of Trade Unions on April 20 next year.

The Federation was founded by the Cyprus Building Contractors Association (representing contractors in the province of Nicosia), the Building Contractors Association of Limassol, the Building Contractors Association of Famagusta, the Contractors Association of Paphos and Larnaca Association of Building Contractors.

Among the main objectives of the Federation in accordance with its statutes, including the following:

• Mentoring of member Associations

• To ensure, protect and promote the interests and aspirations of member Associations and to address common problems

• Collaboration with other professional bodies in Cyprus and abroad for the purposes of achieving its goals

• Monitoring developments in governmental and legislative fields and a displaying the relevant attitude to decisions or bills

• Negotiation and conclusion of collective agreements

• Writing and reviewing the Contracting contract

In all these years of existence, O.S.E.O.K has managed to continuously improve and upgrade the profession of contractor in the most important area of the economy of our state.

The construction sector has gone through various stages but the age through which we are moving now is crucial since the integration of our country in a United Europe has contributed largely to the creation of an entirely new environment in the construction sector with greater demands both competitive, organizational
and purely job related.

The required quality of the finished product is increasing, either due to greater awareness and consumer education or because of legislation.

Checks regarding the adherence to the rules, collective agreements and laws are growing and in combination with frequent guidance from the EU, that the state and subsequently the sector must follow do not leave much room for contractors that must either follow or stay back and likely be forced to leave the profession.

O.S.E.O.K. is working with orderly and proper planning to support the Associations and their members to in addressing these problems and the challenges of our age.
