Participation in the Professional Qualifications System (SEP)
On 18.04.2007 the Human Resource Development Authority (HRDA) held the award ceremony for the first qualification certificates (PEP) as a direct result of the 1st phase of the system that has been applied in Cyprus since the 2nd half of 2006, three financial areas for 5 PEP (Standards of Professional Qualifications) including the builder of the construction sector.
Our Federation contributed greatly to the efforts, of the responsible department of the HRDA, in finding interested persons and also feels very proud that one of its own construction companies, a member of the Association of Nicosia, A. Aristotelous Construction Ltd., managed to be the first among the first to certify four of its executives as builders at level 2. At the opening of the 2nd phase, the workshop was organized on May 15, 2007 in which the Federation was represented by Mr. M. Lois N. Kelepeshis. During the workshop a presentation was made of important data in relation to the priorities of the Cypriot economy in the area of human resources, employment structure by sector and occupation and the skills and disciplines of Technical / Vocational Education and Apprenticeship Scheme. Based on the presentations, there was discussion in relation to the Professional Qualification Standards (PEP) to be determined at the 2nd phase of the System.
The Human Resource Development Authority (HRDA) is expected to open in the definition of some 60 new Standards Qualifications at different levels, while continuing the process of examination and certification candidates to existing 5 professional standards. For our field a list of 12 standards with a total of 15 levels was proposed, not including the already certain level of building 2.
On July 11, 2008, O.S.E.O.K representatives at the HRDA had a meeting with all member associations OEB related to the construction industry where they explained and informed about the qualifications system and the imminent enlargement of qualification standards.
