O.S.E.O.K. contribution to fire victims of Figalias Municipality in Peloponnese

Within the frame of social responsibility and sensitized by the fires that burnet ,during the summer of 2007, the region of the Peloponnese, the Federation of Associations of Building Contractors of Cyprus has decided to devote the amount of 100,000 euro to the fire victims to help in restoring the damages sustained. It is noteworthy that a considerable amount of €82027 was received after a fundraiser was held between contractors - members of the O.S.E.O.K. Associations.

After consultation with the Ministry of Interior, it was decided that the amount be allocated to the Figalias municipality namely the municipal district of Petralona which was also visited by a delegation of the Federation on 28-29 March 2008, consisted of the Vice-President P. Evlogimenos, Treasurer Mr. C. Roushas and General Director, Mr. N. Kelepeshis.

After studying the needs of the region and consultations with the City Council of Figalia, the Federation undertook to execute the following projects:

1. Installation of a generator powered water pumping station to assist in drinking water needs to serve the municipal department in the event of power failure (which has already operated in a recent blackout).

2. Replacement of the old water supply network in the Petralona municipal department, which in recent years faces ongoing water supply problems.

3. Construction of Municipal Stadium.

For the first two projects bids were declared and evaluated. After signing contracts with the successful bidders, work began, and concluded that early November 2008.

Representation O.S.E.O.K. under the Vice President Mr. P. Evlogimenos went back to Greece for the formal process of delivering checks, and to oversee the development of the third project, construction of a Municipal Stadium, on which work will begin as soon as relevant planning permissions are issued. Mr. Evlogimenos met with the project planners and community representative.

The Federation of Associations of Building Contractors of Cyprus, which monitors the ongoing progress of work supports the effort for the completion of the third construction project of the Municipal Stadium, thus completing, the circle of work that had been announced, for use of the amounts previously received by members Associations of O.S.E.O.K., to relieve the disaster-stricken areas of Greece.

Contributions to the charity Society “Alkionides” - October 2008

The Building Contractors Association and the Cyprus Federation of Associations of Building Contractors Cyprus aware of the work of the charity Society Alkionides since 1998, helped increase its objectives, contributing the amount of EURO 1000.

Representation O.S.E.O.K. and S.E.O.K. under the General Manager Mr Nikos Kelepeshis and treasurer of S.E.O.K. Mr. Frangopoulos Savva, delivered on the 21^st of October 2008 a check of 1,000 euro to a representative of the Association in their offices in Nicosia, Mrs. Polyviou Georgia.

The “Alkionides” charity, in cooperation with the Office of Social Welfare provides direct assistance to people in desperate need by working together to bridge the gaps presented by under-staffing and bureaucracy of the state apparatus.

Aims of the Society, which continues its work in the United Kingdom are:

- Financial assistance and support to patients the Republic of Cyprus sends to hospitals in London and

- Studying the problems faced by individuals or families in need and contributing in resolving them in any way.
