Discussion and suggestions in the presence of Mr. E. Socratous (Labor Inspector / Department of Labor Inspection)
On May 15, 2007 the Board of the Association, met with Mr. Evangelos Socratous Socratous (Labor Inspector / Department of Labor Inspection) and discussed the following:
• Mr. Socratous referred to a separate group created under the Department of Labor Inspection and the employment of a new employee (Chemical Engineer) will lead to better functioning of the Department for effective control of construction work in the city of Limassol.
• Asked the Association to support the efforts of the Labor Inspection Department for the proper implementation of the Project Health & Safety.
• It was also asked to make regular contacts with the Association for better cooperation in order to set new foundations and so that any problems should be promoted and resolved to our mutual benefit.
• Reference was made as to the costs for safety measures at the locations of sites to be calculated at the time of tender.
• It was also asked that our members be informed on key failures identified by the Department of Labor Inspection in relation to the Health & Safety at Work.
The chairman of the Association stated that:
• He recommends the establishment and adoption of regular annual meetings of the Association with the local department of Labor Inspection.
• Underlined the ignorance that is still observed with a group of scholars (Civil Engineers-Architects) regarding their obligation to prepare a Health & Safety Draft, identifying risks during construction, suggesting the necessary protective measures and the Health & Safety Draft to be given to candidate contractors during the bid.
• Deems the organization of a seminar - conference in collaboration with and as key speaker, the Department of Labor Inspection, appropriate and effective. With the involvement of Contractors, Architects and Civil Engineering.
• Considers necessary that inspectors from the Ministry of Labor inform the supervisors and engineers where they identify a lack of a Health & Safety Plan on construction sites, in order to highlight their obligations in this matter.
Meeting with the Mayor of Limassol Mr. Andreas Christou
On February 2, 2007 a 4 member group of the Board of Directors met with the Mayor of Limassol and raised the following issues / problems.
• The duplicate payment of business tax to municipalities, where the work performed in other municipalities is of duration greater than 15 days, according to the Municipalities Law.
• Planning Permits and Building Permits
• Reference was also made to the possible contribution of the Association to the City for the betterment of the city.
• It was requested that a park be adopted next to the erection site of the premises of the Association.
• It was decided to hold these meetings from time to time on various issues facing the Association.
Seminars on "First Aid Courses / First Aid at Work - First Aid at Work (FAW)
The Association of Limassol in collaboration with the Association & The Order of St. John organized for the second time the afore mentioned Seminars which began on October 30, 2007 and completed in 16 meetings of 90 minutes each.
Seminars were crowned with complete success because each trainee passed the examination and received a diploma that meets the requirements of the law "About Health & Safety on construction sites.
Premises of the Association of Limassol
The building process for the erection of privately owned premises are underway where a planning permission was issued and the following schedules were set:
1. Submission of plans for the issue of a Building Permit on 10/6/2008
2. Preparation of all documentation, measurements, conditions and plans for bids: 5/9/2008
3. Evaluation of tenders and selection of contractor: 30/09/2008
4. Date of commencement: 2/10/2008
5. Completion of work: 30/11/2009
Blood Donations by the Association of Limassol
Both in 2007 and in 2008 the Associations’ annual established blood donations were hosted, one of the largest held in Limassol.
The interest shown by both members and colleagues the Associations’ call was touching resulting in the target being surpassed by collecting 256 bottles of blood in 2007 and 214 in 2008.
Awards in the 2nd Technical School
In the context of its social contribution the Association of Limassol awarded, for the fifth consecutive year on June 20, 2008, during the established annual graduation event of the 2nd Technical School, the honor students in the fields of Civil Engineering and Architecture.
21st Ball of the Association of Limassol
On December 22, 2007 the Associations 21st ball was held at the Four Seasons Hotel. It was found by general consensus that the dance was a complete success in all areas.
