Seminars

The Federation of Associations of Building Contractors Cyprus (O.S.E.O.K.) in collaboration with its member associations and other organizations (HRDA, S.E.E.E., etc.), organizes and / or participates in educational training programs and workshops aimed at informing, educating and training members of the contractors associations, business executives and by extension all those who work in construction.

Through continuous education, the Federation "envisioned" a new culture through which contractors will be able to develop professional, social and environmental awareness, which will lead to the desired levels of recognition and therefore would justify them as entrepreneurs and professionals.

The effort began in 2006 and continues today.

Campaign for the Education Cypriot Contractors

O.S.E.O.K. in cooperation with the Council for the Registration and Control of Contractors (S.E.E.E) organized a unique, for construction sector, education campaign to all registered contractors of Cyprus. Title was: "Make Education the key in Security & professionalism”. The main advertisement chosen for this campaign said that: "Ignorance of the risks in construction and the lack of education often lead to disability and death, demolishing LIFES dreams. We in the Council for the Registration and Control Contractors and the Building Contractors Federation of Associations of Cyprus say WE CARE and we do not want any more human losses.

The campaign was designed with complete professionalism (strategic planning campaign, definition of purpose and objectives, design an advertising plan and budget) and received significant exposure in the media. Overall projections were made through newspapers, magazines and billboards on highways as well as television and reached a value of 27.000 CYP

The educational programs were of 6 hour length  in accordance with the requirements of HRDA. Covered the whole law regarding Health and Safety at work (temporary and permanent sites), showed the minimum requirements on health and safety at construction sites and then dealt with specific issues such as first aid, earthworks, installations, etc. The training certificates issued can be used by their owners for the renewal of their contractors’ license.

The campaign was designed to be completed in two phases in July and September 2007 but the huge interest of contractors forced us to add 4 times more educational programs than what we expected. 2322 contractors and employees, from all the free areas of Cyprus, trained during this campaign, until 31/12/2007. The number of educational programs came to 66 and was expected to rise by at least another 7 in 2008.
